Why this page exists

Immigration law changes quickly, and the stakes are high. A filing deadline, an eligibility rule, or a processing estimate that was accurate last year may be wrong today, and acting on outdated guidance can cost someone their status, their work authorization, or their ability to stay with their family.

This page explains who writes the guidance published on this site, who reviews it, how we date it, where our statements come from, and what this information can and cannot do for you. If a page on this site carries a “Legally reviewed by” line, these are the standards behind it.

Who writes and reviews our content

Our practice guides and legal articles are prepared with the involvement of the immigration attorneys and legal staff at KPB Immigration Law Firm PC. Every page in our practice areas and legal articles library is attributed to a reviewer: either a named attorney, when an individual attorney is responsible for the analysis, or the firm's immigration attorneys collectively.

Attorney review means a lawyer at this firm has read the page for legal accuracy and for whether it reflects current law and agency practice as we understand it at the time of review. It does not mean the page has been tailored to any individual reader's circumstances.

How we date our content

Pages covering time-sensitive subjects carry a Last reviewed date. That date reflects the most recent review of the page, not merely the day it was first published.

We treat the following as triggers for re-reviewing a page:

• Changes to statutes, regulations, or executive action affecting eligibility or procedure.
• New or revised USCIS policy guidance, memoranda, or form editions.
• Visa Bulletin movement that changes what applicants should expect.
• Federal court decisions and Board of Immigration Appeals precedent that change how a rule is applied.
• Changes to filing fees, filing locations, or processing procedures.

When a change affects a page, we update the substance and the review date together. If a page's subject is under active litigation or policy change, we aim to say so on the page rather than leave a stale statement standing.

Where our statements come from

Our guidance is based on primary sources wherever possible: the Immigration and Nationality Act and its implementing regulations, Federal Register notices, the USCIS Policy Manual and official USCIS form instructions, Department of State guidance including the Visa Bulletin, Executive Office for Immigration Review materials, and published decisions.

Where a page relies on a specific published source for a date, a deadline, a fee, or an eligibility rule, we identify that source on the page. We do not present processing times or approval outcomes as guarantees, because they are neither promised by the agencies nor within any law firm's control.

What this information is, and what it is not

The content on this site is general legal information published for educational purposes. It is not legal advice, and reading it does not create an attorney-client relationship with KPB Immigration Law Firm PC.

Immigration outcomes depend on the specific facts of each case, the applicable law, and government discretion. Two people with similar circumstances can receive different results. No page on this site predicts or guarantees the outcome of any case, and prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome.

Do not act, or decline to act, on the basis of anything published here without consulting a qualified immigration attorney about your own situation. If you already have an attorney, follow their advice over anything you read on this site.

Corrections

If you believe something on this site is inaccurate or out of date, we want to know. Write to us through our contact page and identify the page and the statement in question.

When we correct a substantive error — one that could change how a reader understands their eligibility, a deadline, or a required step — we update the page, refresh its review date, and note that the page was corrected.

Content in other languages

Some of our guidance is published in Spanish and Portuguese. Those pages are prepared for readers who prefer to read in those languages and are held to the same review standards as our English content. Where a translated page and an English page differ, the English page reflects our most recent review.
